SP Quill Seeks Etherees by August 31, 2009

The SP Quill, a biannual magazine from Shadow Poetry, is now a perfect-bound 6" x 9" biannual magazine for poets, writers, and poetry lovers filled with poetry, stories, articles, and fun. It is an interactive magazine, as well as one you can curl up with for bedtime reading.

Two issues will be offered yearly to be released in the months of May and November respectively. Issue #21, celebrating the cinquain form was released this month, May 2009. Issue #22 will come out in November 2009 and will celebrate the etheree. Submissions are being seeked for Issue #22 through August 31, 2009. You can submit up to 3 unpublished etherees in their final well-edited version, with a cover letter, and a short poet profile written in 3rd person for consideration by e-mail to spquill@shadowpoetry.com or by using their electronic form. An etheree consists of 10 lines of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 syllables.

Named for the Arkansas poet that developed this from, Etheree Taylor Armstrong, the etheree consists of ten lines of unmetered and unrhymed verse, the first line having one syllable with each succeeding line adding a syllable, for a poem consisting of 55 syllables.

This concise form is meant to focus on one idea or subject.

Other short poetic forms (under 30 lines), short/flash stories, poet/author profiles, personal quotes, essays, articles, or poetic features will be considered should they be submitted.

NOTE: As this is a small press operation, SP Quill does not pay its contributors nor does it provide free contributor copies.

The SP Quill will have first-time publishing rights to all accepted material until after the release of the said issue when copyrights will revert back to the original author/artist so that he/she may republish the same material elsewhere. We also reserve the right to republish any work that has been accepted into a SP Quill Magazine for any furture SP Quill or Shadow Poetry publication without prior notification. Again, contributor copies will not be given or supplied to any poet, author and/or artist appearing within these publications. Neither Shadow Poetry nor the SP Quill will ever take or sell the copyrights to anyone’s works.

Acceptance letters will be sent out to all poets and authors appearing within an issue at least three weeks before the magazine is scheduled for release. For works submitted long before the deadline, we will respond to works within one month.




Also, please submit your Asian influenced verse and haiga to our sister publication White Lotus, a classy 5.5" x 8.5" chapbook style biannual magazine featuring haiku, senryu, tanka and haiga. Taiga, sumi-e and haiku related articles and/or book reviews are also welcome. Two issues will be offered yearly: Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer of corresponding seasonal themed haiku, senryu, tanka, and haiga released in August and February respectively.
